Requires key decisions to be made collaboratively at different levels of the
supply chain with the aim being to maximise the gross margin across the
entire chain (signified by the outside boundary in the diagram). Different
tools and techniques are used to maximise the available margin and then
to subsequently capture as much of this margin as is possible.

| Traditional management processes in the Oil Supply Chain often still
exhibit a "silo-based" operational model, where each element in the
chain is managed as a separate business entity. The flow of
decision-making between these silos is often driven from the
supply-side, focusing on how to optimally process the crude oil
rather than on how to fulfill customer demand in the most profitable
way.
|
Current global trends toward demand-driven supply chains - already in
full swing in most of the discrete manufacturing industries, will
require fundamental changes in managing the oil supply chains.
Reversing the flow of decision-making to become customer and demand
oriented, will require breaking the walls between the silos and
managing the downstream oil supply chain as a single entity.
Redesigning the business processes is the prime challenge in the
industry's quest for change and agility. Matching the new business
processes with a fit-for-purpose, integrated information management
and decision support environment is the parallel challenge on the
road to realising the vision. See diagram 1 on the right.
The complexity and uncertainty associated with the oil supply chain
are the primary reasons that the realisation of an agile, fully
integrated and optimised supply chain management process is still a
"dream".

PETROQUANTUM brings a unique blend of knowledge, expertise and
experience to this problem:
- An in-depth understanding of the complexities of the business
and the interfaces between links in the oil supply chain
- A detailed understanding of the current and future technology that
will provide the building blocks for the decision support
infrastructure and how these will fit together
- A first-hand knowledge of the technology suppliers and their capabilities
- A passion to help clients to realise their needs in this area
PETROQUANTUM brings together some of the key thought-leaders in the
business arena who were responsible for conceptualising, designing
and crafting the vision. We are now ready to help "make it happen":
hence the industry's Vision is inextricably linked to our Mission.
In the Supply Chain Management area we work with clients who:
Want to streamline their business processes for managing the Oil
Supply Chain to achieve optimal responsiveness to changing market,
logistics and manufacturing conditions
Want specific decision support solutions within the Oil Supply Chain
- Trading and Risk Management tools
- Supply Chain Optimisation tools, including Supply, Manufacturing
& Distribution optimisation and collaborative demand management
- Manufacturing (Refinery) Planning and Scheduling tools
- Primary and Secondary Distribution Planning and Scheduling tools
- Data acquisition, storage & provision, including basic data management
Want to develop or integrate decision support systems within the larger
Oil Supply Chain, generally linking or spanning the interfaces between
segments of the Oil Supply Chain
PETROQUANTUM helps to tailor specific solutions for its clients or it
can work with the client and other suppliers to ensure that the client
gets the best solution available in the market to fit their needs.
